Wetlands: Monitoring Birds at a Wetland Bank

RMBO's Wetlands Program provides bird abundance and habitat use information for the Mile High Wetland Bank, a wetlands mitigation bank two miles north of Barr Lake, run by the Mile High Wetlands Group. The project addresses the question of whether the restoration of declining wetland types benefits declining bird species. This project also assesses the effectiveness of wetland restoration efforts for birds of conservation concern and gathers information useful in creating and enhancing habitats to benefit birds. The value of the wetlands in providing bird habitat may be used in estimating the worth of the wetlands as mitigation credits in the bank. This project is fairly novel in its application of bird habitat-use data to assessment of the value of wetlands for mitigation banking.
