In 2001, RMBO, in conjunction with its funding partners, the Black Hills National
Forest (BHNF) and South Dakota Department of Game, Fish, and Parks, implemented
the first year of Monitoring the Birds of the Black Hills (MBBH). Currently, MBBH
is effectively monitoring more than 60 species in 10 different habitats, including
several U.S. Forest Service Region 2 Sensitive Species, BHNF Management Indicator
Species, BHNF Species of Local Concern, and South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks Species
of Greatest Conservation Need.
