Grades 1-4
Program Fee: Adults- $5.00, Students- $4.00
Duration: 1.5 hours

Please note that there is a $6.00 per vehicle Colorado State Parks entrance fee for programs taking place at Barr Lake State Park. The Wildlife Refuge at Barr Lake State Park comes alive in the spring with nesting great horned owls, bald eagles, great blue herons, cormorants, and more! The park also sees nearly 350 species of birds that use the habitat as a migration stopover or as breeding and nesting grounds. Come see the spectacular dabbling and diving ducks and Canada geese, which are staking out the perfect spot for their nests. This incredibly productive habitat is an oasis located just outside of metropolitan Denver and it provides basic necessities to an incredible number of bird species. Program participants will learn how to use binoculars and spotting scopes to view the various nesting birds and other songbirds. Students will learn to identify different types of nests, nest construction techniques, and they will discover the various niches filled by birds in the Wildlife Refuge. To schedule a Nests and Niches program, contact Kacie Ehrenberger at 303-659-4348 ext 16 or kacie.ehrenberger@rmbo.org.
